This tan wool challis dress and cloak were designed for a History Channel documentary on William Randolph Hearst and Julie Morgan, the architect of San Simeon, by CHRIS VAN DOREN, a Denver Costume designer who worked at Seams Like Olde Times for 21 years. The bodice is fully lined and underlined, featuring a light tan coloring with lace overlay and angled sleeve hem with half-circle over sleeves. The skirt is gored to give it the characteristic shape of the period. The trim at the bottom of the skirt is repeated at the sleeve, a dark brown wool bias striping. Additionally, the lace overlay is repeated at the hem. The cummerbund of rust silk charmeuse is shirred and interfaced to give it a permanent gathered look, without the tendency to fold up on itself. The back dress closure is achieved through the use of amber-like buttons with gold accents. The coordinating cloak is dark brown with bias striping in tan, which completes the fashionable, yet practical ensemble.
