1910’s, Titanic Era

By 1908 the fashion houses in Paris began showing a new silhouette. The style included a thicker waist, flatter bust, narrow hips, and skirts that began to clear the floor. It was a new fluid and soft look. In the early 1910’s the tea gown dresses made from cotton or linen were trimmed lavishly with pin tacks, lace insertions, embroidery and passementerie. Far outside the home the uncorseted tea gown or summer day dress was adapted. Large hats abounded. By 1912 evening gowns had a new fitted, high waist silhouette with huge hats. Sport activity became very important and so was the clothing to be worn while participating in sport. Many of the outfits in this time period will be garment redesigns and they will include all the accessories.
The Titanic era is remembered due to the devastating sinking of the famous ship the Titanic.
