Are your garments wearable?
Yes, most of our vintage and even some of the antique clothing are wearable if the size fits you. We have spent many hours attending to many of the garments to make them wearable.
What is the difference between Antique/Vintage fashions?
To understand the complete comparison between antique and vintage visit the thumbnail on Product page. Antique are items produced before 1920. Vintage items were produced after 1920 to 20 years to date. A good example is 1920 to 1980’s.
What is a reproduction or redesign?
Reproductions are remodeling or redesigning new clothing items to have the appearance of styles and designs representing a previous era. Styles reappear in fashion approximately every 20 years and sometimes there are vintage pieces that have some great style or design parts, fabric, trims, buttons etc. that can be transferred and recycled to that item or another garment to make a reproduction piece. For example, there may be a great skirt from a bridesmaid dress, but the top is dated, so I remove the bodice, change style, add trims, perhaps add a corset and accessories and now it is an Old West Saloon Girl! I DO use modern techniques such as zippers, Velcro, for easy access in and out of garment. IDO NOT CLAIM THAT THEY ARE AUTHENIC ANTIQUES IF I HAVE REDESIGNED THEM. Some of the antique pieces we have repaired somewhat, but I will try and let you know what I have done to any item.
Will you design a reproduction outfit specifically for me?
I’m sorry, but at this time I cannot take special orders. I will continually put new pieces and reproductions on my website under NEW ARRIVALS. There is several other website that do special orders……check out Links.
How will I know the condition of a vintage or antique garment?
We have made every effort to describe the condition of each garment. Any flaws or repairs we have fixed will be noted in the description. We aren’t perfect, so it is possible that some minor flaws may be missed. Remember, these garments are 20 to 100 years old and some have been previously owned and worn. I will tell you that we have spent many hours cleaning, repairing, relining and rebeading when necessary to make them wearable. The next section will explain how we rated condition.
How do you rate condition?
Excellent: Garments are in near perfect condition. The item may have been cleaned, small tears or seams repaired and beaded areas attended to and they are very inconspicuous
Very Good: Garments have a small amount of minor tears, slight detoriation or damage. It will be noted if they have been relined and repaired to improve the integrity, appearance and wear ability.
Good: Garments have some damage/color detoration/ stains etc. They may have good appearance for theatre, or great design style to be used as a pattern.
TLC: NEEDS TENDER LOVING CARE……These pieces have great design techniques, lace, and beadwork but are in NON wearable condition. They will make great pieces for decorating hats or whatever your imagination warrants.
What size do I order?
We do not use modern size equivalents like 6-8-10. There is really no modern size standard (what one may think of as a size 6 may be an 8 or 10 in another brand). In order to get the best fit when purchasing online, it is imperative to compare your REAL measurements to the garments measurements as noted in the description. For detailed information on taking your own measurements and measuring tips visit the Measurement Chart Page.
Why are accurate measurements so important?
Vintage and Antique items are ONE OF A KIND……they normally have very small and delicate seams and if there is extra room in a seam I would have noted that in description………SO if it doesn’t match your measurements, it won’t fit. Vintage clothes are NON-REFUNDABLE so unless you only want to use them for display, I would take and compare my measurements carefully. Again go to Measurement Chart Page for tips on measuring.
Do you do alterations on the garment?
As I have stated in a previous section, we have already done repairs to the item the best we can. Alterations like shortening or taking in are your responsibility but also be aware that lengthening a hem may show a line.
Do you do layaways?
I do not choose to do layaways at this time.
Do you buy antique and vintage clothing?
Yes, we are always on the lookout for interesting items to purchase. The price paid for any item will vary on several factors like condition, size, customer interest and age. Be aware that just because something is old, doesn’t mean it’s a good selling item. If you are in the Denver, Colorado area calls #877-315-1815 or email us at sandy@seamslikeoldetimes.com to set up an appointment. My physical address is 6250B East Yale Ave, Denver, Colo. 80222
Do you have a shop that I may visit and Browse through stock?
I have a small store space for shipping, picturing and repairing but at this time we are not open to the public for sales. All items FOR SALE are on the website since now I am an internet based business and most are already packaged for shipping. The store is only open to public by appointment for special needs.
Do you do valuations on private items?
Although I have been in this business of working with antique and vintage clothing for many, many years, I am not a qualified appraiser thus I do not offer valuations for insurance or resale. This type of appraisal on clothing is very difficult since there is no standard, and it varies on designer, age, condition, sometimes who wore it. I have spent a lifetime researching antiques and vintage clothing and it is very fascinating, you may find it enjoyable also.
